Meet Nicolas - Undergrad Researcher

Say hello to Nicolas Martalog. He’s in his 4th year of Computational Mathematics here at Waterloo.

He will be working as a part-time researcher while he’s taking his courses. The project is to develop optimal linear decoding strategies for adapting spiking neurons. Adapting neurons intially spike at a higher frequency immediately after the onset of the input, but then rapidly settle into a lower firing rate. This is with the same input current. We are wondering if a single set of decoding weights can accuratly decode from a population of adapting neurons, but during their initial rapid firing, as well as during their steady, slower firing.

Welcome to the team, Nicolas!
