Summer researcher, Ben

Hello! I’m Ben and I earned my BMath from the University of Waterloo in Applied Mathematics a few years back, with minors in Computer Science and Fine Arts. I then had a brief career in the financial industry and earned my CFA charter. More recently, I decided to return to UW as a post-degree student in the Faculty of Mathematics.

This summer I will be working with Professor Jeff Orchard to model the synchronization of applause in large crowds. It takes time for the sound of one person’s clap to reach other people in the crowd, and that time will vary depending on how far apart they are. So how does the travel time of sound interact with their ability to synchronize?

I am an active person and enjoy playing soccer, trail running, and yoga. I love getting outside and spotting animals. I am especially good at finding groundhogs.
