This is Michelle, undergrad research assistant

Hello!! My name is Michelle, which is, unfortunately, not a derivative of the ancient Greek “Νικόλαος”, unlike the last two part-time undergraduate researchers. I think three of us in a row would’ve been really cool.

I am a third-year undergraduate biomedical engineering student also completing a biochemistry minor and computing option. I’ve been involved in computational neuroscience research for a while now, at fun places like SickKids, the Max Planck Institutes, and now this lab. I’m excited to learn more about AI and brains while continuing on my research journey this summer!!

I will be implementing a neural network that mimics a beat pattern. The input is mostly zeros, but periodically it receives a nonzero input. The network has to determine the period, and then produce periodic outputs in sync with the input, even after the input stops.
